With all that Covid changed and cancelled, the thing that hit my heart the most was the graduates. The students who worked so hard to complete their education and succeeded but weren’t celebrated. I mean, of course, their families celebrated but there wasn’t that community excitement. The thrill of staying out too late with classmates after their graduation. The growing up that happens when you realize you’re not going to see your friends all together like this in the same place ever again. Instead, see you after spring break turned into see again maybe when it’s safe. Many Seniors had spring break plans cancelled. Some of them had trips planned for the summer and those got cancelled too. This gorgeous grad was planning on touring her choice college abroad in Spain. & I knew when her mama asked me to document her senior session that we needed to include a globe to honor her global studies and Spanish goals. She wore all her outfits she planned to pack for her trip. I really empathized with her because it was Spain that was my first international trip, I went in high school with my Spanish class for 17 days. I know how formative those trips are and what they inspire in us. I hope she gets her days in Spain. She deserves every minute of her excitement and curiosity in a a new place. We all do.
