When Katie asked me to document her pregnancy I knew I wanted something elegant, natural and powerful, we discussed a few location options but this one was definitely the right choice; the Salt River.

I love photographing near the water, especially at the Salt River because of the breathtaking beauty of the Arizona desert mountains. I mean. Just look at the mountain range behind this gorgeous mother to be.

For me, one of the most empowering human experiences is building a human and giving birth, what better way to honor and document that, than harnessing the power of mother nature with a Creative and Natural Maternity Session?!

Radiate Elegance: The Timelessness of Film and Digital Maternity Photography.

It’s so important to me when capturing the beauty of anexpectant mother to hold the space during a sunset so we can see the sun literally radiating elegance into the images. They always say expectant mothrs glow, and I take that literally with my sessions.

I also always shoot in digital and film, and I like to have a variety of edits. These. images contain 3 signautre edits, 1 is my timeless digital, another is my film grain and finally black and white film filter. Each one is custom and tuned to each image perfectly but my goal is to have a variety of sensations with each image. I like to prevent the viewer from getting bored easily and find that 3 different presets gives unique experiences with each image.

I use a variety of natural posing prompts when photographing women and couples, I often seek different angles and arrange people in different directions. My goal is always to arrange people in a way that looks natural but is slightly more elevated than how people normally connect and interact.

Here, I’ve asked the parents to cuddle up and remind dad to constantly be toughing belly just like he would if baby was already here.

Of course I always encourage my parents to bring props along for the session.

but more often than not, I’m looking for them to connect with each other as they would if I wasn’t standing right there, fix his hair, look into each others eyes, crack a joke, rest on his shoulders. okay then also my signature album cover pose.

and notice what you notice, I couldn’t let these beautiful blue shoes escape without a snap of their own.
